Wakaan Records is peaking in new and unseen ways. The left-field bass banner has been on a tear in terms of its overall commercial dominance as well as having its finger on the pulse of which rising bass artists are catapulting to the top from out of the underground. In the past month alone, both Wakaan and its sister label Sskwan have seen new single releases from BUKU ahead of his next EP, new EPs from rising females Redrum and sharlitz web, and a Liquid Stranger and LUZCID collaboration, among countless others.
Under the direction of label boss Liquid Stranger, aka Martin Stääf, the releases just keep pouring out of the woodworks. Here’s a look at what’s coming down the pipelines on Wakaan and SSKWAN.
SubDocta, Shlump – Cavern Dub [WAK165] Out: July 9, 2021
Four years ago, SubDocta released an unofficial remix of Shlump’s “Hip Squeak.” Now, the two bass music talents are colliding on Wakaan for their first collaborative single, “Cavern Dub.” The collaborative joint marks Shlump’s return to Wakaan in over one year and offers a glimpse of what’s to come from SubDocta’s next Wakaan EP.
Speaking to his Facebook fan community directly, MIZE just recently announced what he called a “very special” six-track downtempo EP coming out next week on SSKWAN. “This EP is a call back to my first EP Imagery while also looking into the future at sounds new and old,” said Ian Evans in Mize Manor group online. Balancing Act lands on July 15.
Ravenscoon is back and his dream of releasing on Wakaan is finally coming to fruition. Taking to his socials, the Bay Area bass producer said, “Four brand new tracks, all designed for maximum live experience…. Very excited to showcase some of the heavier stuff I’ve been exploring.” Revolve arrives July 16.
DMVU – The Chain EP [WAK177] Out: August 24, 2021
After 10 months, DMVU returns to Wakaan on Tuesday, July 13 with “Peach Smoothie.” Acting as the lead single preceding his forthcoming EP, titled The Chain, “Peach Smoothie” is a bass blender meant to form goosebumps and raise hairs.
One of Wakaan’s fastest rising stars, Canabliss, is preparing to launch her first release of 2021 with “Freak It.” The track will also marskCanabliss’ SSKWAN debut. Be sure to tune in a few weeks from now for Canabliss’ exercise in downtempo.
Redrum has already been releasing bewitching singles in “Phases” and “Floating” to help her listeners locate and channel their “inner magic.” It’s all leading up to her Pisces Moon EP, which is scheduled for a summer release on SSKWAN. Stay tuned for the EP’s official release date.
Hydraulix – Imposter Syndrome LP Out: September 10, 2021
After a career spanning the better part of a decade, Hydraulix is ready for his biggest artistic venture yet with his forthcoming debut album. Hydraulix continues his debut album rollout with his third offering, “Concrete.” On his latest, worlds collide as the bass titan teams up with Jasiah. In “Concrete”, the Sydney native pushes his sound further into unprecedented territory to unleash an uncompromising bass metal hybrid treat. “Concrete” is out now via WAKAAN and serves as the third single off his forthcoming debut album, Imposter Syndrome.
