Just a month after commemorating his 25th birthday with the dispersal of his EURO 2020 anthem beside U2’s Bono and The Edge, Martin Garrix was also tasked by UEFA to open the gates to the historic football tournament, delivering a digital version of “We Are The People.”
Despite the introduction not actually being in person, both Garrix and U2 put on a performance worthy of preluding the long-awaited EURO 2020 tournament, which had been originally planned for last year but was inevitably postponed due to COVID-19. Set inside a virtually rendered stadium, Garrix and The Edge stood atop a stage designed akin to the former’s logo while Bono appeared behind the both of them in hologram form. For those tuning into the tournament until its completion on July 11, Garrix will be behind the EURO 2020’s official walkout and broadcast music as well.
