Gave to give it to homegrown ingenuity with local twins Harry Nathan and Boonie Labrakis nabbing the Guinness World Record for ‘Worlds Smallest Club’.
The ‘Doof Shed’ is a 1.53m x 0.74m x 1.88m space that features a legit Pioneer DJ set up with, get this, a smoke machine, lighting and disco ball. They managed to nab the world record from Rotherams ‘Club 28’ back in the UK.
Turns out the ‘Doof Shed’ was a predictable answer to lockdowns and restrictions that crippled the music industry and more often than not, spaces to dance in as Harry explains;
“Dance music culture continues to experience setbacks worldwide, with music festivals and nightclubs closing or being cancelled at a rapid rate. The landscape has become very difficult for promoters to schedule future events, running the risk of having their events cancelled last minute due to COVID restrictions or sudden government lockdowns,”
The club was accessible to the public via a ballot system for those wanting to spend time in an ultra claustrophobic space with pounding music and strobes. The proceeds of the ballot went towards mental health charities helping those affected by the lockdowns.
Turns out Harry is a producer himself and has signed and released music with famed internet label Majestic Casual over the years so you know his heart was in the right place for this one!
Also, it seems like an opportune time to mention some other local Guinness World Record holders… yours truly, having snagged the ‘Largest b2b DJ Relay’ Guinness World Record back in 2016.
Check out a short, but hilarious video of the club’s construction and it at full capacity below.
